Touch Football Australia’s Victorian Branch has been awarded the Supporting Grassroots Sport Grant, worth $40,000 over two years from the Victorian State Government. The grant will benefit the development of Touch Football in Victorian regional areas. $1.5 million has been allocated by the Victorian Government from the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Budget for regional and rural sport. TFA Victoria will use the funds from its grant to employ a part-time regional Game Development Officer to manage a specific area. The new position will be responsible for the development of Touch Football in the region through schools, current affiliates, establishing new affiliates, encouraging the development of referees and coaches, and maintaining facilities. TFAVictoria State Branch Manager David Brady said two regions are currently being considered. “Both have good potential for growth for two years. We’re just finalising partnership arrangements,” Mr. Brady said.Game Development Officer Carly Goodrich played a pivotal role in securing the grant.Ms. Goodrich believes that the grant will be of great benefit to Touch Football throughout regional Victoria and outer-metropolitan Melbourne. “It will be a big support because at the moment we’ve got a lot of volunteers doing work in that location. The volunteers will now be able to access resources from the State Branch office to assist them,” she said. The new TFA Victoria Regional Game Development Officer will be based in the specified area and employed locally, which will support the community. The level of service to the developing regions of the State is sure to be improved by the location of the GDO in the rural locality.“If our staff live in metropolitan Melbourne, it is difficult to get to a country affiliate so we might go out there only three or four times a year. But if we’ve got someone centred there in that area for the whole time then we would expect to get a lot of growth participant wise,” Goodrich said. The opportunity for the promotion of Touch Football to country areas is one of the key reasons that the grant was awarded.Sport and Recreation Victoria Project Officer Tom Forsell said the more regional participation, the better. “Currently Touch Football is predominantly Melbourne-based but having someone that can go and deliver sessions in the country, whether it’s school-based stuff or club-school links, will really improve the ability of the organisation to start getting more country kids playing. All the projects that we fund are looking at increasing the participation rate and giving people more of a choice,” Forsell said.TFA Victoria has been extremely proactive in seeking funding in numerous areas, and Branch Manager David Brady is confident that two more key project grants will be awarded soon.“With the extra funding from the State Government, and with several other grants in the pipeline, we will be in a position to access extra staffing support from the parent body. What we’re trying to do is to pool our resources in the right direction. We have experienced quite a substantial growth, as evidenced by our Schools Championships, and the number of affiliates that come on board. We’ve had two new affiliates in the last financial year, which is fantastic. We have had a lot of new enquiries about the sport and the game so we are on our way to establishing our niche in the Victorian sporting landscape for the future,” Brady said. The first grant Touch Victoria is awaiting notification on is a Participation In Community Sport and Active Recreation (PICSAR), State and Regional grant, funded by VicHealth. VicHealth’s charter is to ‘build opportunities for people to be informed, learn new skills, have greater access to activities that promote good health, and share healthier environments’.The sport of Touch Football seems a perfect fit for this criteria. The second grant is part of the Victorian Government’s Future Directions Project, which is also funded through the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Budget. These two grants would help TFA Victoria fund Touch Football in the other identified regional area as well as continue the expansion of the sport in metropolitan Melbourne. Nick Mooney, TFA Victoria Operations Manager is in the process of formalising the strategic and development plans to drive the game forward amongst juniors and in new affiliates in Victoria. The grants are a sign of the increasing recognition of Touch Football as a sport of choice for Victorians.Australian football is still the dominant code in Australia’s south east corner, with 300,000 Victorians currently playing the game, however Touch Football is promoted as a complement to the game, rather than a competition. Touch Football is predominantly a summer sport in Victoria and affiliates are establishing strong links with Australian football clubs. “We find that it’s a good cross-training sport for a lot of football players to keep fit in summer,” David Brady said. With the increased support from the Government and continued partnerships with other sports, Touch Football in Victoria is going from strength to strength.
Liverpool legend Carragher: Alexander-Arnold capable of playing in midfieldby Paul Vegas22 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Trent Alexander-Arnold is capable of playing in the midfield in the future.Alexander-Arnold’s delivery from the right flank has become a consistent and dangerous weapon for Jurgen Klopp’s side over the past few years, but despite that there is still a belief that the youngster will one day move into midfield.”He’s probably one of the best young players in the world if you think about what he has done,” Carragher told Viasport.“If you talk about [Kylian] Mbappe and he’s won the World Cup, but as a defender and playing at this level and how important he is to the team, he is possibly the most creative player in the team from right full-back.“He has a lot of responsibility at a young age and he’s not going to be a superstar, he is a superstar.“His strengths are that he can handle the ball and he is the most creative player in the team, just look at his assists.“People talk about the future and could he come into midfield and be a Kevin De Bruyne type player.”He has more quality now that Liverpool ‘s midfield players and you think about the crosses that De Bruyne puts in from the right midfield position and maybe that’s a position where Trent could play.“But at the moment you wouldn’t think about moving position because he is playing so well.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta knew what he was getting in Deshaun Thomas. The junior forward is a scorer, but ever since Matta could remember he’s also had a bit of a loose trigger. When Thomas played in the 2009 Class 2A state championship game in his home state of Indiana, OSU’s coach was there to watch. The game’s opening tip went to Thomas who immediately threw up a deep 3-pointer. Air ball. “You haven’t seen anything yet,” Matta said to the person sitting next to him at the game. Thirty-four points and 15 boards later, Thomas’ Bishop Luers High School was hoisting the state championship trophy. Now, the same guy who hurriedly threw up an ill-advised air ball in his high school’s state championship game and admitted that he used to “chuck threes, just play to get that shot up” during his freshman year at OSU is the man who will lead the Buckeyes’ offense this season. Is Matta comfortable with that notion? “Yeah,” Matta said. “I think so.” He might not have any choice. With former forward Jared Sullinger now with the Boston Celtics and guard William Buford playing professionally in Spain, much of the night-to-night scoring load will be thrust onto Thomas’ broad shoulders. After the Buckeyes’ 2011 tournament run to the Final Four, it appeared Thomas might join his two teammates in the professional ranks. “It was close,” Thomas said of his decision. “I was thinking about it … because I had a great season so I was very close. But then I sat off in my room by myself and I made that decision myself, and I think I made a perfect decision by coming back.” His return is a big reason the Buckeyes – which are playing in what is expected to be the most difficult basketball conference in the country – are ranked No. 4 in both major preseason polls. For the Buckeyes to live up to those expectations, Thomas – who was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press – will have to play a major role. The OSU forward showed he had the capabilities to be a major player last season, averaging 15.9 points and 5.4 rebounds for the season, and 19.2 points in the NCAA Tournament. Most of his production though, came with the defense focused on Sullinger, giving Thomas a little more freedom. As the only returning Buckeye to average more than nine points per game, the ire of opposing defenses will be fixed upon Thomas. “I’m pretty sure in the Big Ten it will be different,” Thomas said. “I seen how they played Jared last year and I think this year I’ll probably get some of that.” To prepare him, Thomas’ teammates tried to simulate the added defensive pressure he’ll face during summer workouts. His teammates employed double teams, triple teams and traps in scrimmages, and tried to make things as difficult as possible for him on the offensive end. “That’s going to help us big during the season when he realizes that guys are keying in on him,” said junior guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. “It’s not going to phase him because he’s going to be so used to it from our open gyms that he’s not going to think twice.” How did Thomas deal with the added pressure? “Believe it or not, there’s two people guarding him, pulling on his jersey and he still scores the ball,” Smith said. “I mean, I don’t doubt him.” His coach doesn’t either. Matta said Thomas has reined in his free-shooting ways and has turned into a more complete basketball player. “When he came in here as a freshman, if you weren’t sitting on the rim he couldn’t see you when he caught the ball,” Matta said. “He’s added a lot of different things to his game and his basketball IQ just continues to expand. “He’s making himself a complete player.” Thomas and OSU are set to tip off their season Friday against Marquette as part of the Carrier Classic on board the USS Yorktown in Charleston, S.C. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez believes Manchester United have what it takes to close the gap and finish in the top four this season.Since the appointment of interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United have been in impressive form, winning three games in a row and scoring 12 goals in the process.Solskjaer will be aiming for his fourth successive win when they travel to Tyneside for Wednesday night’s Premier League fixture.United are currently 6th place in the league table and 8 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, but Benitez expects the Red Devils to close the gap.“It’s a team that has to be easily in the top four, that is very clear,” Benitez told Sky Sports.Liverpool legend Nicol slams Harry Maguire’s Man United form Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Steve Nicol believes Harry Maguire has made some “horrendous mistakes” recently, and has failed to find his best form since joining Manchester United.“They can compete against Manchester City, Liverpool, anyone. We are talking about one of the biggest clubs in the world in terms of everything.“The players they have, they are so good that if you want to win or get points against them you have to perform really well.“When you are a top side like Manchester United, spending millions every year, you have to be in the top four and you have to win the title.“For them, that’s the pressure. Not just now, they had it before, and for sure they will feel the pressure in a few weeks when they will be there fighting with Tottenham, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, and Arsenal.”

Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari backed the struggling Marcelo and insisted he’s a “Madridista through and through”.The Brazil international has struggled to hold on to his left-back position at Real this season following Sergio Reguilon’s strong performances. This has restricted Marcelo to just 12 appearances in La Liga this season, which has renewed talk of a possible summer transfer to Juventus to reunite with his good friend Cristiano Ronaldo. The 30-year-old did start though in Real’s first leg 1-1 draw against Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final tie and helped them secure a valuable away goal.“Our second captain is a Madridista through and through, he always puts Real Madrid first and we work to give our all,” said Solari on the club website.Meanwhile, Marcelo’s fellow Brazilian Vinicius Junior continues to shine at Real after another impressive performance in his Clasico debut on Wednesday night. The 18-year-old kept Gareth Bale benched and repaid Solari’s faith in him by tormenting the Barcelona defence throughout the game with his pace and dribbling skills.“I’m not surprised [about his development], I know him, and I know his way of playing football,” Solari said on Vinicius.“It’s amazing that a boy of 18 years of age is progressing the way he is. Some credit also has to go to his team-mates, who support him and allow him to play.”La Liga Betting: Match-day 4 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Despite it being very early into La Liga season, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had unprecedented starts to their campaigns. With this in…As for the match itself at Camp Nou, Lucas Vazquez had given Real a sixth-minute lead before Malcom smashed in an equaliser for Barcelona to settle the game at 1-1 at Camp Nou.Solari added: “It was a beautiful game, with real quality and regular shifts in momentum. It was great to watch for all the fans of any club.“We had chances to score in both halves, with Vinicius Junior’s effort or Gareth Bale’s attempt. It’s hard to talk about justice in football.“Making comparisons is pointless. This game is confirmation that this group of players is working very well. It’s an open-ended result, there’s a lot of quality out on the pitch and anything can happen at any time.”The return leg between Real Madrid and Barcelona will take place on February 27 at the Santiago Bernabeu.🏁 FT: @FCBarcelona 1-1 @realmadrid⚽ Malcom 57′; @Lucasvazquez91 6’#Emirates | #RMClasico pic.twitter.com/ms5nPlnPdE— Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) February 6, 2019

Despite news that D.C. Council member Brandon Todd (D-Ward 4) is embroiled in a controversy over unsubstantiated donations and missing information, some Ward 4 residents seem willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.Brandon Todd is facing accusations of campaign inconsistencies in his 2015 council bid reporting. (Courtesy photo)On April 7, the Washington Post reported that Todd’s 2015 special election campaign was unable to document $100,000 in contributions and failed to report $34,000 to the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance. On April 16, the newspaper reported that there is missing information for 136 contributors that gave $18,000.“I take very seriously any audit conducted by the Office of Campaign Finance,” Todd told the AFRO on April 17. “My campaign team is working diligently to address all of the issues of the audit. We are confident that this matter will be resolved soon after all of the documents are in.”On April 28, 2015, Todd won a special election to serve out the remainder of Muriel Bowser’s term as the Ward 4 representative. Bowser stepped down from her council seat when she was elected District mayor in 2014.Bowser endorsed and supported Todd, who served as director of constituent services for Bowser when she was on the council and served as the finance chair for her mayoral bid.In addition, he was elected a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte and in 2013 he was elected as the chairman of the Ward 4 Democrats. Leo Alexander, a former television journalist who ran for mayor in 2010, is no fan of Todd’s.Alexander said that Todd can’t cut the mustard when it comes to being a member of the District’s legislative body. “Brandon is a nice guy,” he said. “But he is in over his head as the council member. Everybody can’t be ‘the guy.’ He is just a stooge for Muriel and that’s it.”“Brandon Todd is only accountable to the people of Ward 4 and he goes to the Wilson building everyday fighting for them,” Everett Hamilton, campaign spokesperson for Todd, told the AFRO.

We are ushering in change in the SSC rules with the aim to have more transparency in the system. The schools would upload their vacancies online and the School Education department would allot teachers accordingly. The minister maintained that his department has already rationalised the teacher-student ratio in Dooars and in three remote islands in Sunderbans. “We will also give protection to in-service teachers,” he added. Chatterjee pointed out that in 2011, there were 1,09,794 primary teachers and in 2019, the figure has gone up to 2,16,381. In the upper primary level, there were 1,16,051 teachers in 2011 and in 2019, there are 1,13,936 teachers, while another 14,000 will be recruited soon. There are 2,500 guest lecturers that have been recruited by the managing committees of colleges without the state government’s permission. Out of these guest lecturers, 40 percent qualify the UGC eligibility norms.

March 19, 2019 Enroll Now for Free This story originally appeared on Engadget 2 min read James Bond movies tend to be a reflection of the cultural zeitgeist, and that might be reflected in his choice of whip next time around. The Sun sources have claimed that the director of the next Bond movie, Cary Joji Fukanaga, wants 007 to drive Aston Martin’s electric Rapide E (above) instead of one of its gas-powered coupes. It may seem like blasphemy for Bond’s flashiest vehicle to be a sedan, but Fukanaga, lead actor Daniel Craig and the producers reportedly believed “the time was right” for the secret agent to use an emissions-free ride. There’s no guarantee this will happen. If it does, though, it’ll represent a milestone for the spy thriller series as the first actual environmentally-friendly Bond car. While the agent was supposed to be driving a hydrogen fuel cell Ford Edge in Quantum of Solace, that was just a conventional model gussied up as the then-unavailable Edge HySeries. Here, Bond could drive the real deal. It’d be up to the job, too. The Rapide E’s dual motors will make it getaway-ready with the equivalent output of 602 horsepower and a top speed of 155 mph, and it should stay cool enough at speed to last for a entire chase scene. Let’s just hope Bond doesn’t need to drive too far. The Rapide E does have an estimated 200-mile-plus range and a very fast charging system, but it wouldn’t be much fun to watch Bond twiddling his thumbs at a charging station.
