Rajapakshe expressed these views while addressing the fourth China South Asia Friendship Organization Forum in Colombo. “I would like to reiterate the strong relationship between our two nation especially after the recent visit to China by President Maithripala Sirisena. This is an indication of the friendship and goodwill maintained by the two countries . Both countries helped each other during crisis situations and China always safeguarded the dignity and self-respect of Sri Lanka at every turn,” he said. He further said that China has been a major partner for Sri Lanka in the spheres of social , cultural economic and more importantly, in the development of infrastructure facilities.The Minister said the enormous contribution made by China to Sri Lanka’s development process was appreciable. “Sri Lanka relationship with China have been growing stronger over the past several years, especially as Western Governments began cutting aid China had contributed on occasions when Sri Lanka’s major donors have not been forthcoming in assistance and brought about less access to concessional finance from multilateral donors,” he said.He said that Sri Lanka has expressed unwavering support to the “One China” policy and consistently supported China at the United Nations.
