The cause of the crash is under investigation. Speed is believed to be a factor. Johnson was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene. There was no one else traveling in the vehicle. Derrick Johnson, 26, was killed in the collision just after 4 a.m. Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation found that Johnson, driving a green 1995 Ford Taurus, was traveling southbound on the Seward Highway when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled into a ditch near the Rabbit Creek Road exit.
