A run of six straight points meant that the decider came to a sudden death at 14-14.Lee held his calm and his trademark light touch left Kashyap to deal with a heartbreaking defeat.B Sai Praneeth then came on for Hyderabad against Awadhe’s Trump Kidambi Srikanth.Leading the head-to-head record 5-2, Praneeth was always the favourite in the match and he proved just that by beating the world No.3 in straight games.Unable to deal with the stunning creativity and intuition of Praneeth, Srikanth slumped to a 10-15, 10-15 loss leaving his team at -1 compared to Hyderabad’s 3 and with that, Hyderabad had already won the tie.Srikanth, who is known to be a slow starter, began the match on the attack and picked up the first point of the match. He took the shuttles early and looked to stay on his powerful strokes and led the first game 8-6 at the break. However, Praneeth made his way into the game with smart strokes and exceptional anticipation and with Srikanth making a spate of unforced errors, he took a 12-8 lead.Srikanth did try to make a comeback at 10-12 but Praneeth closed down the game with three straight points at 15-10.Praneeth began the second game with his confidence on a whole different level and Srikanth was completely down the barrel.Unable to play anything that Praneeth threw at him, Srikanth went into the break without registering a single points as Praneeth led 8-0.At one point in the game, Praneeth led Srikanth 10-2 but the world No.3 began finding his groove and his smashes started coming along as he closed down the gap to 10-8.However, Praneeth got himself back in control very soon and won the game 15-10 and trumped Srikanth to register his first win this season.Carolina Marin then took on Saina Nehwal in what was Hyderabad’s Trump match and she had no trouble whatsoever in dispatching the Indian star 15-5, 15-7.With her remarkable court coverage and delicate drop shots, she completely outplayed Saina. The Awadhe captain, who is still struggling with her movement, was unable to match up with Marin’s change of directions and slumped to a crushing defeat. While Awadhe looked to salvage their pride in the mixed doubles in the final match of the night, Hyderabad had other plans.Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Pia Bernadeth combined to deflate Awadhe’s Christinna Pederson and Hendra Setiawan 15-9, 15-9. With the win, they inflicted further misery on Awadhe and took Hyderabad to a massive victory sending their team into frenzy.Hyderabad will next play Bengaluru Blasters at home on January 11.last_img
