A 20-something woman wounded in the head just west of downtown Los Angeles in a gang-related shooting was in critical condition today, police said. The shooting in the 400 block of North Lafayette Park Place occurred about 2:30 p.m. yesterday, said Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section. The woman, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery, said Sgt. Melvin Gamble of the Rampart Station. It was unclear what made police believe the shooting was gang-related.
