We receive Francis as a left defender as that was our problem at the Gold Cup. Kemar Lawrence was out (in the) third match, and one of the problems is we couldn’t find a second player at the same level. Shaun Francis is very good, but I have only seen him on the TV, so I will have to talk to him,” he commented. However, he believes that in order to get the result we need in Panama, everyone must bond together and fight for the country. “We have to fight together. The players need support not only from me, but from everyone. People tell me they are behind the team, and it’s very good. “But we need 100 per cent tactical discipline on the field, fighting, and luck. We need luck. You cannot win without luck, so we need a bit of luck, but you have to fight for luck,” he noted. “We watch for the best for us – which tactics can win and the players we have to go out and do it. So we can (get result) and I believe in the Jamaica team because if I don’t believe, then who will believe?” he added. Jamaica senior footballers will arrive in Panama next Tuesday for their must-win CONCACAF Group B World Cup qualifier against the hosts on Friday, September 2. The players are scheduled to arrive at various times and Schäfer believes this might limit the time he has to fine-tune preparations. However, he remains confident that they’ll get three points, to keep their World Cup dream alive, going into the final match against Haiti days later. “We arrive in Panama on 30th. It will be difficult travelling from London to Kingston to Miami to Panama. There will be seven and six hours difference, but I hope the players make our training in two days and we can have long practice and meeting with the players and work on team work and team spirit,” said Schäfer. “Not all players will come at the same time. So it will be difficult for training (on the) same day of arriving, we will only train in the gym when the players come from England or Germany. The MLS players will come later. But we are ready for this match, we have a very strong team with good spirit,” he added. Omar Holness, Shaun Francis and Corey Burke have all earned a recall after some time out of the squad. Francis impressed Schäfer and was drafted as a possible replacement for Kemar Lawrence, who is in the squad but still not fully recovered from an injury he picked up in the Gold Cup.
