first_imgThis province continues to regulate the movement of pork and pork products to protect the hog industries and localities free from the virus. These pigs are being raised in a farm. All the provinces in Western Visayas remain free from African swine fever, according to the Department of Agriculture. BUSINESSWORLD Regions declared free-zones or clear zones can send their live pigs, hog carcasses, pork and pork byproducts anywhere in the country. The National Zoning and Movement Plan in DA Circular No. 12, series of 2019 categorized the provinces and cities in the country into “free zone” and “contaminated zone” to indicate the levels of ASF. The Office of Provincial Veterinarian said the public should be vigilant and responsible about safeguarding Aklan’s swine industry against ASF.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN) To recall, Gov. Florencio Miraflores issued Executive Orders No. 46 and 60 last year along with Memorandum Order No. 31 earlier this year to ban the entry of live swine, products and by products from Luzon and other ASF-affected places in Mindanao. ASF is a highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease that spreads rapidly in pigs. Since there is no known vaccine against it yet – sick pigs die in two to 10 days – ASF is destructive to the swine industry.last_img read more
