Hatch’s son, Joel Hatch, is the electrician for the family outfit.Bob Hatch Builds does everything from concrete fittings to electrical and plumbing work, while paying strict attention to the artisanal and aesthetic side of restoring historical homes.Bob started under the supervision of his father, who worked as an aerospace machinist before getting into the construction business. He learned his attention to detail and perfectionism at an early age.“My first thing, I was four years old pounding nails into floor sheathing and I’ll never forget I didn’t bend one nail,” Bob said. “… Well, I probably bent one because he yelled at me or something. So I straightened it out—I’m never going to bend a nail again, you know! And he taught me that. And the next came electrical. And next came plumbing. He taught me so much just to get me in the door of all the trades to where I learned each and every one of them to where it’s meticulous.”Bob’s father tells of his own apprenticeship in shop class.“It’s always been my job, ever since I worked,” said the elder Hatch. “I took machine shop in high school, then I took two periods of it, because if you take one period of machine shop in school you make a set up and by the time you’re set up it’s the end of the class and it gets torn down, so I took two periods at a time and I learned quite a bit about machinist.”And Bob wasn’t the only one to benefit from his father’s tutelage. Joel, too, learned the trade from his grandfather, starting on go-karts and birdhouses. He returns the favor of his education by helping his dad out with technology on the job site.“I’m kind of teaching my dad a little bit about the technology portion of it with the smartphones and laptops we can print our contracts and proposals out right on the job,” Joel said. “You don’t have to go home and type it out and bring it back like we used to.”Contact Bob Hatch Builds at (626) 354-8339 or [email protected] Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadenalast_img read more

Labour candidates go on solo run on Limerick doorsteps

first_imgCelebrating a ground breaking year in music from Limerick #HearThis: New music and video from Limerick rapper Strange Boy RESIDENTS in City North and City East are bewildered with Labour Party local election candidates who they claim have been canvassing on their doorsteps under the guise as independents.Sinn Féin candidate for Limerick City East, Séighin Ó’Ceallaigh, has accused a Labour rival in the same ward of “masquerading as an independent”. According to Ó’Ceallaigh, Derek Mulcahy has been distributing election material with no mention of his candidacy for the Labour Party.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up “He describes himself as a peace commissioner but makes no mention of the Labour Party. Residents of Garryowen drew my attention to this leaflet while canvassing in the area. It really is quite a bizarre document and speaks volumes for the level of embarrassment that Labour candidates must feel about their parties performance in government,” said Mr Ó’Ceallaigh. In response, Mr Mulcahy denied that his election flyers do not reference the Labour Party.“All my canvassing leaflets have the Labour Party logo on them and I am a peace commissioner. If people need a document signed I am more then happy to accommodate,” said Mr Mulcahy.“Garryowen is one of the oldest communities in Limerick that does not have its own community centre. The letter I put out in Garryowen is letting the people know that if I am elected to Limerick City and County Council I will make this a priority,” he explained.Meanwhile, Anti Austerity Alliance candidate for City North, Cian Prendiville, has also accused Labour rival Frankie Daly of “pretending to be an independent”. A campaign leaflet issued by Mr Daly, who is standing in Limerick City North, makes no reference his party, and the AAA claim many who he has talked to believed he was an independent.“Labour are running scared. The fact that their leaflets don’t mention the Labour Party is a further sign that this party are trying to scam working class people. They know they are facing a wipe out and are trying every trick in the book to avoid that. Labour are obviously well trained in lying during elections, but this is a new low,” said Mr Prendiville.According to Frankie’s campaign manager Richard Fahy, 300 campaign posters, 10,000 flyers and 6,000 leaflets were distributed in City North in the run up to this Friday’s local election all with the Labour party logo.“Frankie did put together a low quality leaflet, a bio, for people who asked for a little more information. Maybe you could ask Cian Prendiville to clear up the confusion on whether he’s a member of the Anti Austerity Alliance or the Socialist Party,” Mr Fahy concluded. Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant spoil Kobe Bryant’s final game in Oklahoma City

first_imgOKLAHOMA CITY – With the game out of reach, the Thunders’ Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook sat at the scorer’s table. They scanned the box score and laughed. Durant and Westbrook completed a running joke at the Lakers’ expense, as the Thunder handed them a 112-79 loss on Monday at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Durant scored anytime he wanted to with 34 points on an 11-of-18 clip. Westbrook recorded his league-leading 18th triple double by halftime before finishing with 13 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds.Kobe Bryant hardly sounded surprised Westbrook tied Magic Johnson’s triple double output in the 1988-89 season. Bryant contended Westbrook “has no flaws in his game.” Bryant called Westbrook “the most athletic player I’ve ever played against.” And Bryant found Westbrook sharing his same on-court feistiness. Yet, Lakers coach Byron Scott tried to suppress his anger, calling it “interesting” Russell logged a triple double by halftime with 11 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. That marked the first time anyone has done that since Jim Tucker recorded a triple double for the Syracuse Nationals in 17 minutes in 1955. “I’ve never seen that kid take a night off,” Scott said. “When he’s on the floor, you’re going to get everything he has to give. If you’re a defender and you’re not ready, you’re going to get embarrassed.”The Lakers (16-65) have often become embarrassed against several teams. This time, Bryant could not make the game at least compelling against the Thunder (55-26). He posted 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting in 19 minutes a night after logging 35 points in Houston. Bryant seemed just as efficient early, scoring all of his 13 points on a 4-of-10 clip in the entire first quarter. That approach backfired.“I tried to loosen up in the locker room coming out for the second half,” Bryant said. “But I couldn’t move well at all.”Hence, Scott “wasn’t thinking about it at all” to reinsert Bryant late in the fourth quarter despite the constant pleas from fans. Instead, Bryant rested more before his career-finale on Wednesday against Utah at Staples Center. “I would’ve loved to play against KD and chase Russell around a little bit more,” Bryant said. “But I’m still appreciative of the fans reaction.” Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorcenter_img Durant and Westbrook offered Bryant a more generous gift beforehand. Bryant received a photography book filled with personalized messages, a gesture Bryant called “extremely thoughtful.” “It takes time for players to be able to sit and be able to do that,” Bryant said. “The biggest thing is to have memories.”Bryant would like to forget this game or losing to the Thunder in the 2012 Western Conference semifinals. Instead, Bryant would cherish the Lakers defeating Oklahoma City in the first round before winning the 2010 NBA title. Or when Durant saw Bryant make 50 shots in seven different spots from behind the 3-point line during an off-day workout with the U.S. Olympic team in 2008. “He took a bus to a high school gym to put some work in,” Durant said. “He’s old school. That’s exactly what I wanted to be like.”Bryant thought of Durant and Westbrook when he said the “league is filled with young, talented players.” Bryant could not yet say the same thing of the Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell (11 points on 3-of-10 shooting, four turnovers), Jordan Clarkson (11 points on 2-of-14 shooting) and Julius Randle (nine points on 4-of-11 shooting). Yet, Scott downplayed whether Bryant’s frequent absences from practice and shootarounds to treat his aging body indirectly stunted his young teammates’ development. “Practice is one small part of it,” Scott said. “He’s given them advice on end-of game situations going on that can absolutely help them in the future. If he could’ve practiced every day, he would’ve. But that would’ve been a detriment to him and us.”Hence, Scott admitted the Lakers “are going to have to rectify that this summer.” First things first. Bryant has one game left of a glorious career. The Lakers have one game left of an awful season. last_img read more
