The recruits are aged between 22 to late 30s and come from a range of backgrounds.Pat O’Brien, Chief Officer Fire & Rescue, Airport Police Fire Service, Shannon Airport said: “It is a new era for the Airport Police and Fire Service in Shannon and we are looking forward to the recruits entering the service. Their training programme is intensive and has benefitted hugely from significant investment in the very latest technology and training aids. Over 500 people applied for just ten positions, which is a testament to the calibre of the team we have assembled.“Our recruits come from all walks of life, including a painter, a panel beater, strength and conditioning coach and paramedic. Some of them travel from Galway, Longford, Limerick, and Clare. Through the selection process, they have proved themselves to be capable of working well in challenging environments, and with people who may be in distress.Commenting on the importance of the investment in new equipment Pat O’Brien, said: “It was of paramount importance to the management team at Shannon Airport to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, and the new fire tenders have additional safety benefits for both airport fire service staff and passengers.Pat explained: “Conventional fire tenders require that firefighters be put into the risk area to fight aviation fires. However, the new HRET appliance reduces this requirement as fires can be extinguished remotely by operating the HRET from the vehicle cab, allowing the application of water, foam and dry chemical directly to the seat of the fire.“The new fire tenders use cutting edge technology and will be equipped with a thermal imaging camera mounted on the HRET to allow firefighters identify the hottest part of the aircraft, key vital knowledge that is needed to suppress and extinguish aviation fires as quickly and efficiently as possible.Expanding on the benefits of the equipment, Mr. O’Brien said: “Also for aviation firefighting, at the end of the HRET there is a piercing nozzle. If you have an internal fire in a cargo hold of an aircraft, rather than commit a team into the risk area, with your thermal imaging camera, you can identify where the heat source is, and you can penetrate the part of the hold where the fire is with the piercing tool.“It literally can pierce through the aluminium of the aircraft. Then you can apply water or foam internally on the fire. It acts like a sprinkler, cooling and suppressing fire. An analysis of 96 snow pit and ice cores distributed over the Greenland ice sheet is used to determine the main drivers of variability in the preserved records of nitrate concentration. The data set provides samples from spatially distributed locations, allowing us to investigate the effect of snow accumulation rate, temperature, and sublimation on nitrate concentration. The mean ice sheet concentration in the dry snow zone (2000 >= mean annual sea level (masl)) is 132 ng g(-1), ranging between 47 and 265 ng g(-1) with a standard deviation of +/-37 ng g(-1). Nitrate flux varies between 1.1 and 14.7 mu g cm(-2) a(-1) with a mean of 4 +/- 2 mu g cm(-2) a(-1). Large-scale spatial variability exists as a result of accumulation gradients, with concentration 5% greater in the northern plateau, yet flux over the northern plateau is 30% lower than the dry snow zone as a whole. While spatially, flux appears to be more dependent on accumulation, preservation of flux shows increasing dependence on concentration with increasing accumulation. The relationship between concentration and accumulation is nonlinear, showing less dependence in the low-accumulation regions versus high-accumulation regions. Accumulation alone is insufficient to account for the observed variability in nitrate flux in the low-accumulation regions, and evidence supports the need for additional components to a transfer function model for nitrate that includes photochemistry, temperature, and sublimation. Spatial variability across the ice sheet is nonuniform, and changes in nitrate concentration have occurred in some regions at a greater rate than others. While the data support that overall the ice sheet acts as an archive of paleoatmospheric concentration despite the effects of postdepositional processing, one needs to consider spatial variables to properly account for trends and variability in the records. This is tested by evaluating past spatial relationships and yields the result that the significant geographic shifts with respect to reactive N concentrations have occurred over the ice sheet in the past century.

He further stated that the facility will also help in uplifting the community.“Notwithstanding the countries many challenges including that of having to respond to natural disasters, Japan has delivered on this project and we say thank you to the government and people…” he said.The Prime Minister says government is hoping that the new Fisheries complex will also boost economic activity in Portsmouth.Meantime Parliamentary Representative for Portsmouth and Tourism Minister Ian Douglas says the fisheries complex will also highlight the fishing tradition of the people there.He says many people in the north depend on fishing for their livelihood.According to Douglas, it is the start of the unfolding of a new era in Portsmouth.“That long awaited development is unfolding before our very eyes…I see a lot of potential in this facility.
